Weather History

Privacy policy

Weather History has no accounts, no advertising and no third-party trackers. This page lists everything it does record, in both the app and this website.

In the app

Each successful lookup is logged as the place name, the coordinates and the date that were searched for, plus the weather that came back. That log is what makes the counters and the recent-searches list on this website possible.

Alongside it, a hashed form of the IP address is stored: the last twenty characters of its SHA-256 digest. It cannot be turned back into an address. It exists only to tell one device from another when counting how many people use the app.

No name, e-mail address, advertising identifier or precise device identifier is collected. The app asks for location only if you use the “my location” button, and that position is never sent anywhere except to look up its weather.

On this website

This website sets no analytics and no advertising cookies, and embeds no third-party trackers. One cookie is used, and only for the poll: it holds an anonymous session identifier so that a page reload shows the results rather than the question again.

If you vote in the iPhone poll, the vote is stored together with a hashed IP address, in the same form as above, so a single visitor does not fill the poll on their own. If you then choose to leave an e-mail address, it is stored with that vote and used for one thing only: a single message if an iPhone version is ever released. It is never sent to anyone else, and never used for anything else.

To have an address removed, write to Skriw and it will be deleted.

How it is used

Search logs are used in aggregate — to size the daily API budget, to decide which cities are worth pre-loading, and to fill the counters on this page. Individual searches are never linked to a person, because nothing collected identifies one.

Sharing

No personal data, individual search or e-mail address is sold, rented or shared with advertisers or any other third party. Weather requests reach Open-Meteo and MET Norway as plain coordinate-and-date queries, without anything about who asked.

Children

The app is not aimed at children under 13 and knowingly collects nothing from them. Since it collects no personal data from anyone, there is nothing about a child to delete — but if something ever surfaced, it would be removed immediately.

Changes

This policy may be updated. Significant changes will be noted here with a new date at the top of the page.
