It is not the thermometer outside your window.
Historical weather comes from reanalysis: measurements from stations, satellites and buoys, merged into a model and computed onto a grid of cells nine to twenty-five kilometres across, adjusted to the elevation of the spot. The shape of the day matches, a single hour is a good estimate, local showers and valley microclimates differ more.
